One to One Community Coaching: Empowering Independence While Supporting Individuals Through Every Day Life
At Angelic Place, our dedicated professionals provide personalized coaching that goes beyond traditional support services.
Our non-center based, comprehensive one-to-one coaching program helps individuals overcome barriers to community participation by developing essential life skills, from navigating public transportation to building meaningful relationships with the focused support of a personalized coach.
Community Engagement: Building Life Skills for Adults with Developmental Disabilities in Group Settings
Through small-group settings across Virginia – Angelic Place Inc. LLC provides comprehensive community engagement programs to support Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in community settings.
Our experienced Program Coordinators and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide personalized guidance to help participants build essential skills in social behavior, relationships, independence, and employability.
Process and Requirements
Our state-licensed residential care facilities maintain the highest standards of compliance with Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) regulations. See the requirements below for program and service qualification as well as our application process.
The admissions process begins with a collaborative exchange of information aimed at determining whether Angelic Place Residential Homes can support the needs of potential individuals.
Referrals may be submitted by parents/guardians, social workers, govt. officials, private practitioners, psychiatric facilities, special education personnel, and CSB/BHS. Referrals should be directed to the Chief Programming Officer or designee.
An initial telephone contact is acceptable; however, a written packet of information along with required admissions documentation is required before the admissions process can proceed. Chief Programming Officer or designee will complete an initial screening form when receiving information from an interested party regarding placement.
After the initial screening is completed and both parties are interested in moving forward, the Chief Programming Officer or Designee will forward the Admission Screening packet and request information such as the current ISP, SIS, VIDES, Psychological Evaluation, Behavior Support Plan (if applicable), current medication lists and medical protocols. Any other information deemed necessary will be requested.
Within 3 days of receiving the requested information, the Chief Programming Officer or Designee will relay information regarding next steps and offer admission or request more information.
Each individual must have a primary diagnosis of intellectual disability.
Each individual must be assessed by a QDDP or QMHP-A. The results of the assessment must indicate a need for residential support provided by AP. Angelic Place, LLC. will not support individuals who need services beyond our ability to provide.
Each individual is able to meet basic self-care and personal needs with training and assistance.
If the individual is not medically stable and requires on-site medical treatment, Angelic Place may admit if there is available accommodation in a home equipped for such services.
The individual must be at least 18 years of age.
Each individual must accept referral to appropriate treatment services if they exhibit self-injurious behavior, maladaptive behaviors, or mental health symptoms which could pose a threat to the program, the community or other individuals in the home or community (Ongoing therapy or behavioral consultation may be a condition for receiving services)
Everyone must have had a physical and tuberculosis test with negative results prior to admission and no more than 30 days current. A physical and tuberculosis test may be requested by AP prior to making an admission decision;
Everyone must agree to follow the rules of the program.
AP will be unable to offer admission to any individual who either fails to meet or agree to the above criteria or to individuals who are not compatible with the other individuals in the home based on needs presented, functioning level, etc
A written explanation will be provided to all individuals not accepted into the program.
The written explanation will identify the reasons for the lack of acceptance.
Individuals may not have a history of recent and persistent sexual behavior that is illegal.
Individuals may not have a persistent history of fire setting.
Individuals may not have a recent and persistent criminal history involving felony convictions and incarceration.
Individuals may not have a recent and persistent history of substance abuse or is actively abusing substances.
Participation in an Inpatient Detoxification program may be a condition of admission.
Individuals may not be presenting suicidal ideation with an active plan during admission.
Once admitted to the program, individuals must continue to meet the admission criteria.
If an individual’s needs change, Angelic Place, LLC. will reassess the person and his/her current needs to ensure that continue to meet admission/participation criteria.
If it is determined that an individual is unable or unwilling to continue to meet the admission criteria, he/she may face termination/discharge from the program.
Individuals must agree to follow the rules of the program.
Angelic Place, LLC. has established discharge criteria for the individuals it supports. Discharge of an individual from this organization shall be based upon any of the following criteria:
A discharge initiated by the individual’s request
Individual requires supports that Angelic Place Inc. (AP) are unable to provide
Individual has progressed to the point where they are functioning at a level that requires less support as needed from group home living
Individual fails to maintain eligibility criteria
Individual fails to comply with the organization rules which can include individuals who pose an immediate and significant danger to themselves or others or repeated violation of program’s rules including but not limited to:
Engaging in significant violent behavior that results in injury or is threatening to others’ well-being
Repeated and willful non-compliance with behavior plans or contracts when target behaviors or mental health symptoms pose a threat to the individual, peers, staff or the public
Repeated and willful interference in another’s program plan
Engaging in disruptive behavior that violates the civil rights of citizens
Knowingly exposing others to life threatening, communicable diseases
Presents with active mental health symptoms that require treatment in an in-patient hospitalization setting on a long-term basis or repeated in-patient hospitalization stays
Repeatedly engaging in behavior that significantly infringes upon the rights, health, safety, and/or mental well-being of the individual, other individuals in the program, staff and/or the public
When interference from external parties (including but not limited to parents, family members, guardians, authorized representatives (AR), or friends) reaches a level that significantly impedes program operations or management. This includes situations that:
Prevents the proper implementation of an individual's program plan
Hinders the achievement of established program goals
Obstructs adherence to professional recommendations from physicians and other licensed practitioners

The mission of the Office of Human Rights is to monitor compliance with the Human Rights Regulations by promoting the basic precepts of human dignity, managing the DBHDS Human Rights complaint resolution program and advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities in our service delivery systems.
The Office of Human Rights assists the Department in fulfilling its legislative mandate under §37.2-400 of the Code of Virginia to assure and protect the legal and human rights of all Individuals as stipulated in the Regulations to Assure the Rights of Individuals Receiving Services from Providers Licensed, Funded, or Operated By The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, otherwise known as the Human Rights Regulations (HRR).
The regulatory authority for DBHDS licenses service delivery systems through effective oversight. The Office of Licensing provides consistent, responsive, and reliable regulatory oversight to DBHDS licensed providers by supporting high quality services to meet the diverse needs of its clients.
